We have a lot going on this summer and we would love you to join us on our Xeno journey.
In Belfast, Maeve's poem 'The Signal', an excerpt from Xenophon: Almanac of Tomorrow is part of the current curation on the Poetry Jukebox, located outside the Crescent Arts Centre.
Meanwhile, in Drogheda our show Xenophon: From the Beginning is on in Droichead Arts Centre until 2nd June. Admission is free, and the show features the largest collection shown together of artefacts and installation from across the lifespan of the Xenophon Project.
Over the summer, Siobhán continues her residency at West Cork Arts Centre in Skibbereen. She will host an open studio most weeks on Thursdays and Fridays. We are planning a public engagement event at West Cork Arts Centre in June with neural re-programming and poetry on the banks of the River Ilen - more details to follow soon.
Bringing some post-human Xeno-themes to a younger audience, Siobhán will be engaging in a new programme with Superprojects in Galway, an initiative for young audiences that generates possibilities for creative encounters with contemporary art and artists.
And in something completely different, Maeve will be facilitating creative writing workshops for groups as part of the community outreach programme at Hillsborough Castle and Gardens, ahead of its re-opening in July 2018, following a complete re-furbishment.
So while we may be a bit quieter on twitter and facebook over the summer, we haven't fallen through a timeslip - you can catch us in Belfast, Hillsborough, Galway, Drogheda and Skibbereen over the summer...and then in Triskel Arts Centre in Cork City in the autumn for our new show, Xenophon: Ubi Tunc Vox Inauditae Melodiae? Et Vox Inauditae Linguae?
This month Siobhan has begun a 6-month residency at Uillinn: West Cork Arts Centre in Skibereen. West Cork Arts Centre was established in 1985 to support a multi-disciplinary arts programme, with a focus on contemporary visual art . It is a resource and development agency, providing expertise and physical and human resources to assist artists, other arts organisations, groups and individuals to realise arts projects.
We have an upcoming shows in Drogheda Arts Festival and in Triskel Arts Centre in Cork City in October, so Siobhan will be making good use of the studio to work on sculptures that will form part of a new installation, along with animation, poetry and music.
Look out for a Xeno engagement event coming up in June if you are based near Skibereen - details will be posted when these are confirmed.
Belfast's newest resident, the Poetry Jukebox, was installed at Crescent Arts Centre a few months ago with a deceptively simple mission: #changethemessage
A new curation arrives at the beginning of April marking twenty years since the signing of the Good Friday Agreement and asking the question.. "What else?" And this is the type of question our post-human narrative likes to interrogate and explore in The Xenophon Project. So we are very delighted that Maeve's poetry fragment, 'The Signal' from our Almanac of Tomorrow piece has been selected to be part of this new curation. Words have power, language carries a resonance far beyond ourselves.
A consensus could not be achieved on whether this was an explosion or an implosion.
The poems in the #GFA20 curation will also become a LabeLLit intervention, part of the arts hub of the Peace & Beyond Conference which is being organised by the Centre for Peace & Democracy, Ulster University & Queen's University Belfast (10-12 April). Our poetry will be an installation of literature designed for conference delegates to take away with them - little thoughts on where the future will take us all.
We are very pleased to announce our new show, Xenophon: From the Beginning, as part of Drogheda Arts Festival, at Droichead Arts Centre.
Featuring artifacts old, new and post-human from The Xenophon Archive, we will be employing sculpture, narrative, animation and technology to explore the interstices between art and science, and the future of the human species.
Entrance is free, everyone is welcome, all are one and details are here.
